I value our partnership with AWC (American Water Chemicals). They are the main family-owned membranes chemistry specialist company, focusing on R&D, technical support, and problem-solving. I enjoyed interacting with them at the European Desalination Society (EDS) conference, listening to Daniele Strongone's presentation on membrane autopsy, and leading the Water Positive panel discussion on closing day. It was also an opportunity to meet with other key partners of Desalytics, like Hach and LG Water Solutions. Together, we are helping solve Africa's water challenges. #waterpositive

Today Alvaro Lagartos from LG Water Solutions and I co-chaired a session about Seawater Reverse Osmosis (#SWRO) plants operations and performance. We hosted amazing speakers sharing insightful case studies and best practices: Eloy Pita from Increa discussed the design and functionality of marine installations for #desalination plants in Egypt, emphasizing safe, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective designs. Amr S. from WTCO presented the Nuweibaa Seawater Reverse Osmosis Desalination Plant, which effectively treats high-salinity seawater with a 42% recovery rate and efficient energy recovery. Alaa Eldeen Elsayed from DuPont Water Solutions highlighted the successful long-term operation of the Sino Iron Project's desalination plant in Australia, utilizing durable and reliable reverse osmosis membranes. Ahmad Radwan from Arabian Japanese Membrane Company LLC described a successful retrofit operation at a Saudi Arabian SWRO plant, overcoming #biofouling issues with improved water production and quality using CTA hollow fiber membranes. Nobuyuki Masumoto showcased the pilot test of an innovative CTA hollow-fiber RO membrane in Dubai, achieving enhanced performance with CO2 utilization for feed water pH control.

The opening session of the European Desalination Society (EDS) featured several key speakers addressing the importance of water for peace, sustainability, and development, particularly in Egypt and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Dr Hosam Shawky highlighted the relationship between water and peace, mentioning that global demand for water is expected to increase significantly by 2050. Egypt, which depends heavily on the Nile River for its water supply, faces water scarcity challenges due to population growth and instability in neighboring countries. The Egyptian government is implementing measures to secure water resources and adapt to climate change, including investments in desalination and water treatment technologies. The session emphasized the global challenge of water scarcity and the potential for water to foster peace or conflict. Distinguished guests and global experts discussed solutions to water scarcity, particularly in the MENA region. The Egyptian government's efforts include reusing agricultural wastewater, implementing seawater desalination plants, and developing strategies for sustainable water management. The conference also featured key figures such as Ursula A., past EDS President, and current President Olga Sallangos who welcomed participants to Sharm El Sheikh and highlighted the importance of desalination in addressing water scarcity. The conference's agenda included discussions on innovations, technology localization, and sustainable water management. Overall, the session underscored the importance of addressing water scarcity for security, stability, and sustainable development, with a focus on promoting collaboration, innovations, and effective management of water resources for the future. Thank you Tracey Nolan-Shaw for this great show.

Our HQ in Dubai allows us to meet our key suppliers and partners since Dubai became the main hub for the Middle East, Africa, and West Asia. Yesterday I had the chance to meet in person with Emre Sönmez from Bentacera who was in town. It was an opportunity to discuss the progress of setting up the Desalytics subsidiary in Europe, get to know him better, and discuss some details about this project. We have had multiple interactions with Emre through virtual calls, but nothing beats the in-person interactions.
